The Dung Quat Refinery marks a milestone in the history of Vietnam being the first oil refinery build in Vietnam. The refinery, located in the Quang Ngai province in Central Vietnam has a designed capacity of 6.5 million tonnes per year (or 14,000 barrel per day) of crude oil and is expected to meet one-third of the country´s demand for oil and petroleum.
For the heavy structures, endbearing bored piles of diameter 800 mm were designed with rock sockets of up to 3 m length. Special equipment and knowledge was required for the execution of such works. Bauer, known for its strength in rock drilling, has been awarded this part of the piling works as nominated subcontractor.
